how fulfilling it is to work with poets who are so talented, easygoing, and, at the end of the day, grateful with the final project.  Here at red nettle, we attempt to create chapbooks (and in some cases, un-books) that are as close to a collaborative vision as possible.  On June 21st at Hulbert’s Cafe, we launched the publications of some darn fine poets, whom we are ever so thankful entrusted us with their final vision, and were patient with the often slow process of book-making!

Last year during the merry month of May, red nettle hosted our first launch, a grand affair which really just felt like a great big party!

This year we will be launching new titles in a more subdued fashion, but with no less reason to celebrate…in fact, we are quite proud of what 2009 has brought us so far:

a simple, yet beautiful (if we do say so ourselves) creation by poet Marita Dachsel, who was recently shortlisted for the ReLit Award for her full-length collection from Caitlin Press, All Things Said and Done; a unique, zen-like collection by glenN robsoN, who is, among other things, one half of the fabulously talented sound-poetry duo Tonguebath; and a collaborative piece by Trisia Eddy and Lainna Lane El Jabi, based on a performance project started earlier this year, which has taken on a life of its own and inspired a handsome chapbook involving love amidst the 1851 London Exhibition.

Later in the year, we are looking forward to releasing chapbooks by Joel Katelnikoff and Jadon Rempel.

The end of May will see us re-launching Patti Sinclair’s out of the witch’s mouth, in her new home of Charlottetown…  much excitement in the air!

red nettle has managed to find a new home online, after a short vacation away from the hustle and bustle of network traffic.  We will be putting down roots here for now, so the press can keep rolling.  Please be patient, as it may take a few more days to update all of our information here on the site; there seems to be so much to keep us busy…

The end of 2008 will see new chapbooks by Mary Pinkoski and Marita Dachsel, with more surprises in store for 2009.  As well, have a look at our ‘catalogue’ page to see what we still have available.

Thank you all for your support!
